**At, this time, due to COVID-19, we are requiring all accepted interns to be vaccinated to the highest current standard, to be fully able to physically work at their hosting non-profit agencies.
Second Year, Self-Planned and Directed Summer Internship Program 2023
Forest Foundation offers interns the opportunity to apply for a second summer internship to further their exposure and commitment to non-profits. Students create and self direct an internship position at a single non-profit or combination of agencies. The locations are geographically restricted to Greater Boston.
Interns are encouraged to be creative and design an opportunity they would otherwise be unable to experience. This internship must have a significant impact on the community served. Programs that support the neediest of populations will have priority.
All second year interns mentor a cohort of 4-5 first years, primarily around the grant writing team proposal, general internship experience, and leadership and personal development.
The second year cohort will together help create some fun, social events for the first year group.
- Starting October 2022, eligible interns should begin communication with Forest Foundation concerning their proposed internship ideas. A well-conceived concept paper is due January 13, 2023 and final written proposal (1-2 pages) is due by March 15, 2023
- The student is responsible for all contacts, preparation, and facilitation of their proposed internship and will maintain contact with Forest Foundation throughout the process. If the agency is a past partner of Forest Foundation, the second year applicant must connect with David Sullivan or Laney Makin to seek approval, as past partners are primarily first year fellow hosts and may not be have capacity for a second year.
- Internships should be created by the intern for maximum experience, not just filling an existing internship position at an agency
- Internships must fulfill the minimum 400 hour requirement over a 10 week period from late May through early August
- Intern compensation is $7,000 (before taxes) and funded through a grant to the host agency
- Interns are compensated through the host agency payroll system
- 2nd year interns will assist Foundation staff at our Proffesional Development Days with meeting logistics and engaging in conversation with 1st year interns
- 2nd year interns are required to attend all professional development day meetings and workshops
- Each 2nd year intern will work with a group of assigned 1st year interns and act as a mentor, guiding the interns through any problems that arise, communicating with them about the grant writing process and acting as a liaison between the intern and Forest Foundation
- 2nd year interns also help plan social events for the 1st year interns
